Kawakami Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

First-year swimmer won two individual events at Howard
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Tyler Kawakami of GW men's swimming and diving was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Tuesday for his efforts in last Saturday's win at Howard.
The first-year out of Honolulu, Hawaii, posted individual wins in the 100-yard freestyle (:47.65) and 100-yard breaststroke (:59.71) and also was part of a Buff and Blue victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:35.46). He placed third in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.93 seconds, as well.
Kawakami has made an instant impact in the GW lineup with his best times in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle ranking among the top eight in the A-10 this season.
Kawakami and the Colonials are next in action at the Queens University Fall Frenzy on Nov. 22-24 in Charlotte, N.C.
