Men's Water Polo Takes Down No. 14 Bucknell

Colonials beat the Bison in their regular season finale
LEWISBURG, Pa. - GW men's water polo wrapped the regular season in emphatic fashion Sunday, edging No. 14 Bucknell, 11-10, at Kinney Natatorium.
Atakan Destici netted a team-high three goals to help the 19th-ranked Colonials avenge an earlier loss to the Bison.
At 20-8 overall and 9-3 in MAWPC play, GW has clinched a top-three seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The standings will be finalized after next weekend's action across the league.
The Colonials went 2-1 on their final weekend of regular season play after splitting a Senior Day doubleheader at Smith Center Pool on Saturday.
GW needed a strong closing kick to take down Bucknell. Following a third quarter that featured four ties and three lead changes, the Colonials outscored the Bison 3-2 over the final eight minutes.
The visitors went in front for good at 9-8 on a goal by Andras Levai early in the final period. NickSchroeder followed with a goal to pad the advantage, and Destici later added GW's final score to restore the two-goal cushion at 11-9 with 1:51 remaining.
The Bison pulled within a goal with 1:00 to go, but the the Colonials dug in to close out the victory.
Fresh off scoring a career-high nine goals in Saturday's win over Wagner, Destici delivered again for the Colonials, while Schroeder scored twice in his third multi-goal performance in GW's last five games.
Mavis scored twice to finish the weekend with 16 goals over three games. Levai found the net twice with Jordan Blosser and DJ Davis also supplying goals for the Buff and Blue.
In net, Matt Taylor recorded nine saves for the Colonials in the victory.
UP NEXT: GW has a break until the MAWPC Championship, which runs Nov. 22-24 in the same pool at Bucknell.
