10/4/2026 4:55:00 PM | Water Polo
GW water polo opened up October with the start of MAWPC play, going 1-1 after beating Mercyhurst and falling to Bucknell. The Revolutionaries also fell to Gannon in their last non-conference match of 2026. The Buff and Blue move to 10-7 overall as they enter the heart of conference action.Â
GW 13, Bucknell 14 (OT)Â
The Revolutionaries faced a hot Bucknell side that had won seven of its nine previous games to open up conference play. It took the Buff & Blue some time to settle in on the road, held scoreless through the first seven minutes, but two late first-quarter goals sparked a 4-0 GW run to give the Revolutionaries momentum.Â
Bucknell weathered GW's attack and found themselves with an 11-8 lead late in the fourth, but three straight GW scores from Yam Kabakov, Anthony Ferneini and Konstantinos Kapragkos sent the game to OT. A 3-1 burst from Bucknell to start overtime put GW behind the eight ball, and despite GW pulling within one with 30 seconds remaining, the home Bison killed the clock to secure the narrow win.Â
Kapragkos paced GW with four goals, supported by Gabriele Molfino with three.Â
GW 17, Mercyhurst 15
The Revolutionaries took off from the start in their opening game on Sunday vs. Mercyhurst, taking a 10-3 lead at the start of the second quarter. GW saw its early lead dissipate as the Lakers shaved the deficit to five by halftime before getting within one in the third quarter. The Revolutionaries held firm in the fourth, though, keeping at least a two-point lead throughout as they closed the win at 17-15.Â
Kapragkos again led the way in scoring with five goals, helped by Andrea Forno with four scores, three of which came in the first quarter.Â
GW 14, Gannon 15
The last non-conference matchup of the season didn't go GW's way, as after GW beat Gannon 15-8 on Sept. 12, the Lancers rebounded for a 15-14 win. The game was tight throughout as neither side held more than a three-goal lead in the game. GW had a 13-10 lead early in the fourth, but five straight Gannon goals gave the home side the lead late, which they took to the finish.
Kapragkos led the revolutionaries with four goals. Molfino, Rowan Keane, Joseph McCreary and Forno each had two.Â
