Hilmarsson, Turay collect first goals of the season
WASHINGTON - GW men's soccer utilized a second half surge to storm past visiting Saint Joseph's, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon on the Mount Vernon Campus.
After a tame first half, GW mounted increasing pressure in the second stanza, ultimately resulting in goals from Haukur Hilmarsson in the 61st minute and Alhaji Turay in the 78th. Noah Lubin earned the clean sheet in net with one save.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 61st minute: Hilmarsson netted his first goal of the campaign coming off a corner kick from Tom Cooklin. Following a scramble in the box, Liam Emson provided a deft flick on to Hilmarsson who drilled a shot from outside the 18' to give GW the edge.
- 78th minute: The Colonials took advantage of a Hawks' red card in the 74th minute to salt the game away, ultimately scoring on a great individual effort from Turay. After winning a ball in the midfield, Turay found a crease and a made a strong 1 v. 1 play before blasting a shot inside the right post.
NOTEWORTHY
NOTEWORTHY
- Both Hilmarsson and Turay scored their first goals of the season. For Turay it was the first goal of his career, coming in his 27th career match.
- Noah Lubin made just one save to post the second clean sheet of his career. He previously blanked St. Bonaventure earlier this year.
- Two of the Colonials' three A-10 victories have come with Lubin and the GW defense shutting out the opponent.
- The Buff & Blue held a 15-9 advantage in shots, recording 10 of them after intermission, and led 5-1 in shots on goal.
