Colonials hope to continue ascent through strong fall campaign
WASHINGTON - GW cross country is set to close out its regular season with a final tune-up at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday. The men open up the day with an 8k race at 10 a.m., with the women's 6k following at approximately 10:30 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials had a strong performance at the Paul Short Run two weeks ago, combining to set 12 new personal records out of 17 competitors. Men's first-year James Glockenmeier was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week for his team-leading performance with a 21st place finish in 25:06.6. For the third time in as many competitions, senior Suzanne Dannheim paced the women's team with a 16th place finish.
RECORD BREAKERS: Glockenmeier's time posted as the ninth-fastest in men's program history at the 8k distance, and the fastest since Jackson Cronin's 24:47.4 at the Princeton Invitational last year.
On the women's side, Dannheim's 20:20.8 marked the second-best 6k time in program history, bested only by Megan Hogan's 19:58 when winning the A-10 Championship in 2010. Additionally, Margaret Coogan (21:03.3, 4th), Mariah Moro (21:22.0, 8th) and Kathryn Nohilly (21:26.9, 9th) etched their name in the program's top-10 with their performances at the Paul Short.
IN THE RANKINGS: As a result of the strong team showing, the women's side moved up seven spots in the Mid-Atlantic regional rankings, coming in at No. 8 for the highest regional ranking in program history. The ranking surpasses the previous best of No. 9, set earlier this year. GW is the second-highest ranked A-10 team, trailing only La Salle (No. 7).
