Colonials extend win streak to eight

DOVER, Del. – The George Washington women's soccer squad took a break from Atlantic 10 action on Thursday evening for its final non-conference matchup of the season, shutting out Delaware State, 3-0, at Alumni Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• 44^th Minute – After being contained by the Hornets' back line for the majority of the first half, the Colonials were finally able to break through with a goal from Rachel Sorkenn, her fifth of the season. After back-to-back shots from Sammy Neyman, one of which hit the post, Sorkenn took the rebound and shot the ball from 25 yards out and into the back of the net. GW 1, DSU 0
• 56^th Minute – Sorkenn continued her momentum into the game's second stanza with her second goal of the day. GW 2, DSU 0
• 74^th Minute – The Colonials padded their lead by converting off the corner kick. Maria Pareja took the corner and positioned the ball right in front of the net, giving Megan McCormick the opportunity to head it in. GW 3, DSU 0

NOTEWORTHY
• With the victory, the Colonials win streak extends to eight. The squad also wraps up non-conference play with an impressive 4-1-2 mark.
• GW sits atop the league with a 6-1-0 record on the road this season, only conceding its season opener at William & Mary. In those games, the Colonials have scored a combined 13 goals and held their opponents to just four.
• Sorkenn's pair of goals matches her single-game season high. The River Edge, N.J., native previously recorded two tallies at Rhode Island (9/29). She now ranks first on the team with 17 points (6g, 5a).
• GW finished the day with a dominant 22-2 advantage in shots. Sophomore Sammy Neyman paced the squad with five shots on the day, while Anyssa Ibrahim and Sorkenn followed closely behind with three apiece.
• McCormick's goal marks her career-high fourth of the season.
• The Colonials also held a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.
• Starting keeper Tamaki Machi made two saves in 73 minutes of play while Erica Lorenzana played the final 17 minutes of the match.
