Colonials recognized for strong fall semester in classroom
WASHINGTON -- The George Washington swimming and diving teams put in quality work in the classroom during the fall semester, earning recognition as College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams.
On Tuesday, the CSCAA honored a record 713 teams representing 460 schools nationwide for achieving a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher in the fall semester.
The GW women recorded a 3.25 GPA, while the men posted a combined GPA of 3.20. It's the 14th time in the past 16 semesters that both squads received the accolade.
Forty-two Colonials earned spots on the GW Athletics Dean's List (3.00+) with eight of them also on the University Dean's List (3.75+). The group was headlined by Nicolas Reeves, Alli Lapps and Miranda Simon with perfect 4.0s for the semester.
"I'm very proud of our team's continued success in the classroom," head coach Brian Thomas said. "Being a coach allows me to see first-hand the commitment that it takes to have academic success at an institution like GW.
Those outside of our family rarely see the hours spent studying on buses, planes and pool decks. Beyond that, the interest that our team has in each other's academic achievement is truly special, which is a testament to Shelby McKay, Danya Ellman and the rest of our academic support staff."
