Swimming & Diving Makes Second Trip to Dual Meet Tournament
The Dual Meet Tournament is on the horizon as George Washington swimming & diving prepares for its second trip in as many years to the first-of-its-kind, bracket-style swim meet. The meet will feature 12 total duals over the course of two days with some of the best teams and athletes in the sport. The meet will be hosted by Georgia Tech at McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga., on Friday and Saturday.
Eight total teams will compete in this year's bracket: GW, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Minnesota, Penn State and South Carolina. GW's first-round matchup will feature a dual against Auburn at 11:30 a.m. on Friday morning. After which, the Buff & Blue will compete at 6 p.m. on Friday in either the semifinals or consolation bracket, facing either Kentucky or Penn State.
A total of 32 swimmers and four divers from each school will compete in the duals, with each swimmer able to compete in a maximum of three events per dual. Divers will compete in an abbreviated three-dive format on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Men's and women's team scores at the Dual Meet Tournament will be combined to make one score in each dual with a total of 790 points available. The score to win in a dual is 396.
GW opened the season last weekend when the swimmers split a dual at William & Mary, while the divers won two of four events at Navy. GW boasted three A10 weekly award winners after its last meet, as Andres Brooks and Isabel Sayag were named Men's and Women's Performer of the Week, respectively, and Efe Isler was tabbed the Men's Rookie Performer of the Week.
GW competed in the first-ever dual meet tournament last season, as the Buff & Blue finished in seventh place after falling to Georgia and Minnesota before beating Army in the final dual.
