Colonials welcome American to the Vern
LAST TIME OUT: GW won its season opener on Friday, beating Stony Brook, 3-2, behind a hat trick from Oscar Haynes Brown. The sophomore forward found the net in the 57th, 72nd and 76th minutes to power the Colonials on their home field. It was the program's first hat trick since Seth Rudolph did it vs. Saint Joseph's in November 2010.
AMAZING OSCAR: Haynes Brown earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team last fall after tallying six goals and two assists in 13 games. With Friday's hat trick, he's up to 20 career points, which ties him with Dylan Lightbourn for most among current Colonials.
FAMILIAR FOE: This series dates back to GW's inaugural season in 1965. The teams met annually through 1995 and have continued to square off on a regular basis since then, including a matchup in the 2002 NCAA Tournament.
SCOUTING AMERICAN: The Eagles began their season Friday with a 2-1 win over A-10 foe George Mason. They trailed 1-0 at halftime before goals by Jerry Zouantcha and Fabio Massaro propelled them to the home victory.
COMING UP: GW continues its season-opening homestand, welcoming Lehigh to the Vern on Saturday at 4 p.m. Then, the Colonials head on the road for three straight non-conference games.
