Men's Rowing Starts Strong at GW Invite

WASHINGTON - George Washington men's rowing swept its three Oliver T. Carr Bowl races to get off to a strong start at the 30th George Washington Invitational on Friday afternoon on the Potomac River.
The Colonials collected 39 points and sit tied with Navy on top of the team standings, entering the final day of racing.
"I thought the guys did a really nice job today with adverse conditions," head coach Mark Davis said. "With the wind being gusty and the water being choppy in places, it makes it really hard to row and be consistent. I thought all three boats handled the conditions really well today, which was nice to see."
GW's third varsity 8 picked up a convincing win (5:47.90) before the Colonials added a pair of down-to-the-wire victories. The second varsity 8 finished in 5:39.10 to edge Florida Tech by nine-tenths of a second before the varsity eight crossed the finish line in 5:36.60 to beat the Panthers by 2.2 seconds.
"I thought both of them did a great job staying composed," They weren't in the lead, and it was exciting to see our guys handle that, not get rattle and move forward. It was a good first day of the Invite, and hopefully, we keep getting faster."
The GW Invitational wraps up Saturday with the racing set to begin at 8:40 a.m.
