PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The George Washington men's rowing team challenged No. 4 Brown and Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon on the Seekonk River.
The afternoon racing featured temperatures around 50 degrees with a tailwind that died down as racing went on throughout the day.
"The 3V8 had a really competitive first half of the race and were right with Dartmouth and Brown, then at about the second half of the race, the teams started to get away and we were not able to maintain the pace, especially when the conditions got a bit rough," said head Coach Mark Davis. "The varsity boat, similar to the 3V8, had a really good first 1,000 meters of the race with Brown just ahead of them, but they were four or five seats ahead of Dartmouth. They just didn't keep up the pace and let Dartmouth row away from them. They still finished strong and had a great last 500, but finished third. So, it's back to work, staring Monday morning, and getting ready for the next race with Navy, Columbia, and Hobart.
