Women's Rowing Tunes Up on the Occoquan

In the second year in the regatta's current format, boats from the A-10, CAA and Big 12 took part in intra-conference heats in the morning. Then, in the afternoon, a boat from each conference took part in each final, with points awarded based on finish.
Racing on the Occoquan River from the Big 12 were Kansas, West Virginia, and Old Dominion, the A-10 featured the Colonials, George Mason, and Saint Joseph's, and the CAA included Villanova, Eastern Michigan and Delaware.
The Colonials had three of four boats top the A-10 heats to advance to their respective grand finals in the afternoon. The varsity 8 boat went on to take second-place in the grand final, clocking in just behind Kansas (6:25.70) with a time of 6:29.28. The Buff and Blue finished ahead of Delaware (6:41.82).
The 2V8 and 3V8 also advanced to their grand finals and both finished the day with gold. The 2V8 came in first with a time of 6:39.80 ahead of Villanova (6:45.34) and Kansas (6:47.70). In the 3V8 grand final, the Colonials topped their CAA and Big 12 opponents with a time of 6:50.20, finishing before Kansas (6:52.73) and Villanova (7:09.44).
CARCICH'S COMMENTS: "First I would like to thank the entire George Mason coaching staff for creating an incredibly unique and exciting racing weekend," said head coach Eric Carcich. "The team performed well today knowing this was our final tune up prior to the A-10 Championships. We took advantage of racing some very fast crews in really good conditions. We are walking away excited about where we can go from here knowing our very best speed has yet to be shown and the team is ready to get back to work on Tuesday morning."
