Zhang Claims Bronze at CSCAA National Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Emily Zhang earned a bronze medal in the 200-yard individual medley for George Washington women's swimming and diving Thursday to open the CSCAA National Invitational Championship.
Zhang followed up her silver in the event at the Atlantic 10 Championships with another medal-winning performance at Navy's Lejeune Hall. The junior from Maryland touched in 2:00.56, pacing an impressive showing for the Colonials, who have 43 points to sit 10th place out of 23 teams with two days of competition remaining.
Jackie Torrez also qualified for the 200 IM A final and finished sixth with a career-best time of 2:02.26, while Gemma Atherley placed seventh in the B final and 15th overall to set her own career best (2:04.06).
Zhang and Atherley teamed with Abigail Fusco and Caroline Racke on an 11th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:33.85.
Fusco (18th) and Racke (39th) were also in action in the 50-yard freestyle.
UP NEXT: Seven more events are on tap Friday. Preliminary racing begins at 10:30 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m.
