It was her third medal in as many days at Navy's Lejeune Hall after taking bronze in the 200-yard individual medley Thursday and bronze in the 800-yard freestyle relay Friday.Zhang's efforts helped the Colonials place eighth out of 31 squads with 145.5 points for the meet. Florida International claimed the women's team title with 598.5 points.
Gemma Atherley also scored individually Saturday with her 10th-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. The sophomore from the Channel Islands tied for second in the B final in 2:00.18.
To close the meet, Zhang, Atherley, Caroline Racke and Abigail Fusco teamed to finish 13th in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:24.55.
Jackie Torrez qualified for the B final of the 200-yard butterfly, while Fusco (24th) and Racke (76th) competed in the 100-yard freestyle.
GW had six swimmers in all in action at the postseason meet that requires competitors to qualify by recording an NCAA consideration time or winning conference gold.
The Colonials managed to put their best foot forward on the national stage, bringing a satisfying close to a season that saw them continue their climb up the A-10 standings. They rewrote the program record book en route to a third-place finish at the conference meet, their best showing there in more than a decade.
