FAIRFAX, Va. – George Washington men's soccer fell, 3-0, on Wednesday night at George Mason.
The Colonials (4-5-1, 0-2 A-10) trailed the Patriots (3-4, 1-0) after Tunde Akinlosotu's seventh-minute strike and went on to drop the road Atlantic 10 contest at George Mason Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 7th Minute: Tunde Akinlosotu ran on to a ball from Colin Brezniak behind the defense and flicked a chip into the right side of the net. (George Mason 1, GW 0)
- 42nd Minute: Tolu Ibukunle added to the George Mason lead just before halftime. The reserve forward weaved around a couple of GW defenders before hitting a low shot into the right corner. (George Mason 2, GW 0)
- 74th Minute: George Mason's final score came from Grant Robinson on a counterattack set up by Ryan Mingachos and Pablo Pertusa. (George Mason 3, GW 0)
NOTEWORTHY
- GW keeper Thor Arne Höfs made five saves, highlighted by a breakaway stop of Brezniak in the final minute of the first half and a diving save to tip a low shot by Mingachos just wide just after the break.
- GW outshot Mason, 13-11. The Colonials put five of those attempts on target. Their best scoring chance came in the 57th minute when Gabriel Seemungal's header off a Max Holdsworth free kick was headed off the goal line by a Mason defender. The GW defender's rebound attempt was then blocked wide.
- GW had a three-match winning streak in the Revolutionary Rivalry series snapped.
