Colonials welcome Minutemen to the Vern on Wednesday
George Washington men's soccer closes its season Wednesday, hosting Massachusetts for a 2 p.m. kickoff on the Mount Vernon Campus.
LAST TIME OUT: GW (5-8-3, 1-4-2 A-10) came up short at Saint Louis on Saturday, falling 2-0 to wrap up its road schedule. The Billikens scored a goal in each half to claim the home victory.
HISTORIC HÖFS: Thor Arne Höfs made five saves against Saint Louis to bring his career total to 258, which ranks fifth on GW's all-time list. The senior goalkeeper sits five stops back of Nick Parypinski ('02) for the No. 4 spot in the program record book. Harry Bargmann is the Buff and Blue's all-time leader with 337 from 1986-1989.
Höfs became the program's all-time shutouts leader in a win over St. Bonaventure on Oct. 10. He enters Wednesday with 22 clean sheets for his career.
DEFEND THE DISTRICT: GW has compiled a 4-2-1 record on the Vern this season, outscoring its opponents, 18-8. The Colonials have clinched a winning home mark for the fourth straight season. Oscar Haynes Brown has led the way with 22 points via 10 goals and two assists in six home games this fall.
SCOUTING MASSACHUSETTS: The Minutemen (6-8-2, 2-5) have had a break since a 2-1 overtime defeat against Dayton on Oct. 20. DeAndrae Brown (17 points), Jack Fulton (13 points) and Davis Smith (11 points) pace the UMass attack.
GW claimed the last meeting in the series on its home field with a 2-0 victory on Oct. 31, 2015.
