Colonials return home Wednesday vs. UMass
ST. LOUIS – George Washington men's soccer dropped a 2-0 decision at Saint Louis in Atlantic 10 action Saturday at Hermann Stadium.
The Colonials (5-8-3, 1-4-2 A-10) ceded a goal in each half and fell to the Billikens (6-3-6, 3-1-3) in their final conference road contest of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 11th Minute: Saint Louis jumped on top with a Devin Boyce goal. Lennart Hein lofted a long ball to Boyce, who gathered the pass and fired a shot from about 10 yards out inside the left post. (Saint Louis 1, GW 0)
- 57th Minute: Saint Louis took advantage of a set piece just outside the 18-yard box to add on to its lead. GW keeper Thor Arne Höfs stopped Quayyum Murana's initial shot from close range, but Chase Niece managed to poke in the rebound. (Saint Louis 2, GW 0)
NOTEWORTHY
- Höfs made five saves to move into fifth place on GW's all-time saves list with 258 for his career. It was the 57th career start for the senior from Germany, who has 68 stops in 15 games on the season.
- GW put five of its nine shots on goal. Haukur Hilmarsson registered three of the tries on target for the Colonials with Dylan Lightbourn and Marcelo Lage also producing scoring chances. Saint Louis keeper Seth Stiebel stopped all five shots to earn his third clean sheet of the season.
UP NEXT: GW returns home Wednesday to close the season against Massachusetts. It's a 2 p.m. kickoff at GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
