The NCAA released Division I Academic Progress Rates (APR) today with eight GW Athletics teams achieving a perfect multi-year rate, just one shy of last year’s all-time program high of nine.
GW’s women’s cross country, golf, gymnastics, women’s swimming & diving, men's tennis, men’s and women’s track and women's water polo teams notched a perfect 1,000. The same eight teams earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards last week for achieving an APR in the Top 10 percent of their sport nationally.
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.
"The perfect APRs achieved by these eight teams speaks to our department-wide initiative to be champions in the classroom,” said Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero. "This is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our educational support staff and coaches who prioritize academic excellence in our student-athletes.”
The APR announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes.
