Taylor Brimberg (sailing), Marie-Louise Decamps (women's tennis), Thor Arne Höfs (men's soccer), Nicolas Reeves (men's swimming & diving), Miranda Simon (women's swimming & diving) and Anna Tapen (women's soccer) were bestowed with academic honors, as was Maddie Brown (volleyball) who also was recognized individually as the Milken Institute School of Public Health's Distinguished Scholar.
Noted George Washington President Steven Knapp of the nine Distinguished Scholars campus wide, "they are selected for what they do in and out of the classroom but also for their intellectual promise."
For Brown, the achievement was just as much as a credit to her team. "My teammates have been crucial to my success here," she said. "Whether it was telling me, 'You've got this,' quizzing each other at the airport or just talking to each other for hours in the locker room."
These seven student-athletes best exemplified what being a champion in the classroom means.
