Men's Track Starts Outdoor Season at Navy Invitational

WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's track team opened its outdoor season with a pair of record-setting performances at Saturday's Navy Invitational at Ingram Field in Annapolis, Maryland.
The Colonials saw records fall in the 200-meter dash and the 800-meter run.
Freshman Jared Nelson narrowly set a new mark in the 200m, finishing in fifth place in 23.66 to clip the old record (23.95) by less than one-half second. Nelson also competed in the 100-meter dash and placed fifth in 12.65.
In the 800m, junior Chris Shaffer broke his own program record when he placed third overall in 1:55.17. His previous record time was 1:57.45 from last spring's Hopkins/Loyola Invite.
Senior Jordan Pantalone placed fourth in the 2000m steeplechase in 6:15.44.
The Colonials also fielded a 4x400 relay team for the first time in school history. The quartet of Ed Delavergne, Colin Wills, Chris Shaffer, and Justin Scott.combined to place second in 3:33.94.
GW next competes at the three-day Colonial Relays at William & Mary, March 30-April 1.
