CLEVELAND - George Washington women's swimming and diving got a strong effort on the boards from a pair of freshmen Friday to open the Magnus Cup Invitational at Cleveland State's Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.

Rachel Dickinson led the way with a sixth-place finish (218.60) on the 1-meter board with Gabriella Arendes close behind in 10th (192.90).

Overall, the Colonials sit in fifth place out of 15 teams with 99 points. They're chasing Akron, Duquesne, Cleveland State and Xavier with two days left.

HIGHLIGHTS:

GW totaled 39 points in Friday's diving event, adding in Gillian Choswke's second-place finish in the B final. The 3-meter competition is set for Saturday.
Emily Zhang qualified for the A final of the 200-yard individual medley and placed seventh (2:03.82).
Jackie Torrez (16th, 200 IM), Gemma Atherley (17th, 500 free) and Abigail Fusco (18th, 50 free) all made B finals.
GW's top relay finish of the day came in the meet-opening 200-yard freestyle relay. Fusco, Zhang, Atherley and Selin Ozturk combined for a seventh-place finish in 1:36.43.

UP NEXT: The Magnus Cup Invitational continues Saturday with a round of preliminary races, beginning at 9 a.m., followed by finals, which start at 5 p.m.
