WASHINGTON - George Washington women's swimming and diving claimed eight of 16 events Friday afternoon in a 156-144 loss to Marshall at Charles E. Smith Center Pool.
Emily Zhang won a pair of individual races and anchored a winning 400-yard freestyle relay team to pace the Colonials in their home opener.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Zhang started her day with a dominant win in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing more than two seconds clear of the field in 1:06.08. The junior from nearby Rockville, Md., later added a win in the 100-yard freestyle (52.53 seconds) and a second-place showing in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.55) before closing the day with the relay victory. She teamed with Abigail Fusco, Gemma Atherley and Selin Ozturk to take the 400-yard free relay in 3:32.40.

- Miranda Simon put together a strong diving performance. The junior won on the 3-meter board with 240.08 points and also finished runner-up in the 1-meter competition.

- Ho continued her strong start to her GW career with a victory in the 100-yard backstroke. The freshman beat Fusco to the wall to win in 57.55 seconds. She also was part of GW's victorious 200-yard medley relay team with Ozturk, Jackie Torrez and Morgan Birdy.
- Ozturk posted a win in the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.66) and swam on both winning relays.
- Atherley was also a winner in the 200-yard backstroke, touching in 2:03.86 to edge second-place Ho by about a second. The sophomore from the Channel Islands was also second in the 200-yard freestyle.
