Oct. 14, 2017 WASHINGTON - George Washington women's swimming and diving picked up a pair of wins Saturday, downing Howard and Chowan at its first dual meet of the season.
The Colonials won eight of 12 events to beat the host Bison, 127-80, and the Hawks, 134-66, at Burr Gym Pool. They used a balanced effort to do it, highlighted by a pair of individual wins from freshman Andrea Ho.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Ho picked up her wins in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.51) and 500-yard freestyle (5:14.46). The Colonials went 1-2-3 in the 200 IM with Elisabeth Vogel and Courtney Coghill following Ho.
- Jackie Torrez won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.40 and also swam a leg on GW's winning 200-yard freestyle relay. Caroline Racke took first in the 50-yard freestyle and anchored the 200-yard medley relay victory.
- The Colonials dominated the 100-yard butterfly, taking the first four spots. Sophomore Alli Lapps won, followed by freshmen Morgan Birdy, Patricia Cerri-Droz and Josephine Teat.
- Hannah Kopydlowski captured GW's other individual victory in the 100-yard freestyle. It was the senior's return to action after missing last season due to injury. She was followed in her victory by teammates Sydney Melnick and Lynn Zhang.
- Isobel Walker led off both of GW's relay wins.
