GLENDORA, Calif. -- The George Washington women's water polo team dropped a 9-4 decision to host Azusa Pacific on Tuesday evening.
Sophomores Jacqueline Bywater and Scarlett Hallahan each tallied a pair of goals for the Colonials (5-9).
The Cougars scored the first two goals of the game, but Hallahan answered with her two markers to knot the game at 2-2 after the opening quarter. Each team tallied once in the second for a 3-3 halftime score, but Azusa Pacific began to pull away with a 3-0 third period, then extended its lead to 7-3 with the first goal of the fourth quarter before Bywater ended GW's scoring drought with 2:59 remaining. The Cougars, however, scored twice more to take the 9-4 win.
Freshman goalkeeper Katherine Moeller recorded a career-high 11 saves in cage.
The Colonials return to action on Wednesday when they conclude their California trip at Chapman. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
