
GW Women's Water Polo Holds Off Chapman, 9-8

ORANGE, Calif. -- The George Washington women's water polo team edged Chapman, 9-8, on Wednesday evening at Allred Pool in the final game of its spring break trip to California.
Senior Hannah Cox led the Colonials with four goals and sophomore Maddie Goodell scored two to go with two assists, three steals and two field blocks. Sophomore Scarlett Hallahan added a goal, three assists, three steals and two ejections drawn. Freshman goalkeeper Katherine Moeller recorded a career-high 14 saves in the cage.
The game was tied, 2-2, after the first quarter, but GW (6-9) scored three in a row to start the second and led 5-3 at the break. Cox opened the third-quarter scoring to make it 6-3 before Chapman used a 3-1 run to pull within one, 7-6, at the end of the period. The Colonials regained a three-goal advantage with the first two goals of the fourth frame, then withstood back-to-back goals by the Panthers over the final 3:39 to take the 9-8 win.
GW now takes a three-week break from competition before hosting Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) rivals Brown, Hartwick and Bucknell on April 9-10.
