Tucker Leads GW Men's Cross Country in Season Opener

EMMITSBURG, Md. - Senior Ryan Tucker posted a career-best, 5,000-meter time of 16:05.7 to clinch fifth place out of 69 competitors and lead the George Washington men's cross country team to 2-2 dual record at the season-opening Mount St. Mary's Duals on Friday afternoon.
The Colonials registered wins over Mount St. Mary's and Loyola (Md.) while falling in the head-to-head competition with American and UMBC.
Tucker beat his previous personal record by less than one second after running 16:06.2 at the 2013 installment of the Mount St. Mary's Duals.
Junior Seamus Roddy was next across the finish line for the Colonials, taking 12th place with a time of 16:25.7.
Freshman Andrew Weber put forth a solid effort in his collegiate debut, finishing in 16:42.5 to clinch 16th place. Also making collegiate debuts for the Colonials was the freshmen duo of Conner James (16:56.3, 23rd place) and Max Del Rio (18:29.8, 56th place).
Junior Jordan Pantalone finished in in 18th place with a time of 16:45.3 while sophomore Charles Arnold, running his first collegiate 5K, tallied a time of 16:51.3 for 21st place.
Rounding out GW's lineup were sophomores Noah Duell (17:40.6, 44th place) and Chris Shaffer (17:57.4, 50th place).
GW returns to action at the Navy Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the United States Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, Maryland.
