WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The George Washington men's rowing team concluded its regular-season schedule with a series of races against Navy and Hobart on Sunday on Lake Mercer.
Conditions were fair with a 2-3 mph variable headwind.
All four races were competitive with each of GW's four boats finishing within 10 seconds of the winning boat.
In the Varsity 8, the Colonials finished in third place with a time of 5:55.57, behind first-place Navy (5:45.60) and Hobart (5:53.11).
The 2nd Varsity 8 race was also tight, with Navy taking first in 6:01.00. Hobart followed in second in 6:04.20 with GW taking third place in 6:10.74.
GW's best finish of the day was in the 3rd Varsity 8 race in which the Colonials rowed to a second-place finish, navigating the 2,000-meter course in 6:13.63. Navy won the event in 6:07.50 with Hobart taking third place in 6:25.51.
GW's 4th Varsity 8 also notched a second-place finish with a time of 6:19.29, five seconds behind first-place Navy (6:19.27). Hobart took third in 6:29.43.
The Colonials begin postseason competition on May 17 at the 70th Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC) Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts.
