GW Men's Rowing Competes at Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. - The George Washington men's rowing team finished in third place in the Varsity 8 Third-Level Final on a busy day of racing at the 70th annual Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC) Sprints on Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond.
The Colonials raced four boats across a total of eight races and two sessions.
The Varsity 8 registered a time of 5:49.04 in a tightly contested final to take third place. Holy Cross won in 5:44.97 with Syracuse (5:47.19) finishing just two seconds ahead of the Colonials. MIT (5:49.13), Georgetown (5:52.56) and Rutgers (6:04.79) rounded out the field.
The V8 finished in sixth place in its morning heat, which saw all six boats finish within 12 seconds of each other. Princeton won the heat in 5:37.32, followed by Northeastern (5:38.31), Wisconsin (5:43.06), Cornell (5:44.90), Holy Cross (5:47.09) and GW (5:49.17).
GW's 3rd Varsity 8 defeated the field to win its 3rd Level Final. The Colonials won in 6:06.43, ahead of Columbia (6:11.68), Holy Cross (6:17.89), Georgetown (6:25.07) and Rutgers (6:33.52).
The 3V8 took fifth place in its morning heat with a time of 6:00.24.
The Colonials' 2nd Varsity 8 finished in second place in its respective third-level final after a fifth-place performance in its morning heat. In the final, the Colonials navigated the 2,000-meter course in 6:02.10, behind winner Syracuse (5:56.44) and ahead of Georgetown (6:05.71), Holy Cross (6:08.08) and Rutgers (6:21.78).
GW also raced a Fourth Varsity 8 on Sunday, which finished in fourth place in the 4V8 Petite Final. The Colonials tallied a time of 6:19.04, behind winner Princeton (6:05.00), Harvard (6:13.59) and Holy Cross (6:17.16).
The Colonials return to action at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships, May 29-31, on Lake Mercer outside of Princeton, New Jersey.
