WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's rowing team aims for its third Howard W. Wilkins Bowl victory, and first since 2012, at this weekend's 27th George Washington Invitational on the Potomac River.
The two-day event launches on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. before two Saturday sessions from 8-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.
Last season, the Colonials finished in fifth place at the GW Invite after totaling 30 points over nine races. The Colonials have previously won the Wilkins Bowl in 2012 and 2005.
Now in its 27th year, the GW Invitational will welcome women's programs from Georgetown, Navy, Saint Joseph's, Dayton and MIT. The Colonials will face MIT on Friday (beginning at 2:20 p.m.), Navy on Saturday morning (beginning at 9 a.m.) and Atlantic 10 rival Dayton on Saturday afternoon (beginning at 2 p.m.).
Fifteen points will be awarded to the winner of each Varsity 8 race while 12 points will go to the winner of the JV8 races. The winner of the Varsity 4 race will receive nine points. No points will be awarded for second or third place.
For the fifth consecutive year, GW Rowing and GWsports.com will be partnering with USRowing in providing multiple camera angles and audio commentary for a high-definition broadcast both at the venue on RaiseHigh Live, the subscription-based multimedia video platform for GWsports.com. Along with the live online video streaming, fans attending the event at Washington Harbour in Georgetown will be able to watch and listen to audio commentary for all races in their entirety on a large video screen located along the riverwalk.
