WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's rowing team won three out of four races over Georgetown and Rutgers on Sunday morning on the Potomac River.
Conditions featured flat water with a light cross wind and tail current.
GW notched wins In the Second Varsity 8, Third Varsity 8 and Freshmen 8.
"Overall it was a really good day of racing with a number of close, competitive races," said Head Coach Mark Davis. "The speeds of us and Georgetown were very close throughout the morning."
The Varsity 8 was the closest race of the day as Georgetown edged out the Colonials at the finish line to win by one second. Georgetown tallied a time of 5:34.10, followed by GW in 5:35.10. Rutgers finished third in 5:47.40.
"The Varsity 8 had a two-seat advantage at about 500 meters and held that awhile, but Georgetown was able to row through that," said Coach Davis. "To our credit, we closed in the final 100 meters but ran out of course and ended up losing by just one second."
