GW Women's Rowing Races in Philadelphia to Open Season

PHILADELPHIA - The George Washington women's rowing team opened its 2015 spring season on Saturday with a series of races against Saint Joseph's, Penn and Temple on the Schuykilll River.
The Colonials faced Saint Joseph's and Temple in the morning session. Conditions featured flat water and no wind.
The first race of the morning was the Third Varsity 8 where GW finished in third place in 7:15.80 behind Penn (6:56.90) and Saint Joseph's (7:00.60).
The Colonials took second place in the Varsity 4, navigating the 2,000-meter course in 7:35.00 ahead of Saint Joseph's (7:52.10) and behind Penn (7:28.00).
GW rounded out the morning session with a pair of third-place finishes in the JV8 (6:50.70) and the Varsity 8 (6:54.70).
GW's Varsity 4 defeated three Temple boats in the afternoon session, where conditions featured a consistent and moderate head wind.
The V4 navigated the 2,000-meter course in 7:43.50 to edge out Temple's A4 (7:45.90), Novice 4 (8:03.30) and B4 (8:16.30).
Temple earned dual race wins in the Varsity 8, JV8 and 3V8 to round out the day of racing.
The Colonials will return to Philadelphia next weekend to compete in the annual Murphy Cup Regatta on Saturday.
