GW Women's Rowing Takes Fifth at GW Invite

WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's rowing team's Varsity 4 defeated MIT to lead the Colonials to a fifth-place finish on day two of the George Washington Invitational on the Potomac River on Saturday.
Navy won the Howard W. Wilkens Bowl with 108 points. MIT finished in second place with 72 points followed by Georgetown (63), Duquesne (39), GW (30) and Saint Joseph's (12).
GW entered Saturday's session with 21 points in the Wilkens Bowl standings but was unable to register a victory in Saturday's morning session, falling in a trio of races to Navy.
In the afternoon session, GW's Varsity 4 registered an open-water victory over MIT, navigating the 2,000-meter course in 7:52.10. The Engineers followed in 7:20.10.
GW's 3rd Varsity 8 also secured a victory over MIT in a non-scoring event. The Colonials finished in 7:14.50, six seconds ahead of MIT (7:20.10).
The Colonials were narrowly defeated by the Engineers in the Varsity 8, finishing six seconds behind. GW finished in 6:50.20 while the Engineers tallied a time of 6:44.20.
MIT's JV8 won over GW in 7:03.00, with the Colonials finishing in 7:10.90.
GW returns to action at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships (April 18-19) on Lake Mellon in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
