GW Women's Rowing Set for GW Invitational

WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's rowing team will compete in 12 total races at this weekend's two-day George Washington Invitational on Friday and Saturday on the Potomac River.

Now in its 26th year, the GW Invitational will welcome women's programs from Georgetown, Navy, Saint Joseph's, Duquesne and MIT.

The Colonials will row a C4, B4, Varsity 4, JV8 and Varsity 8 boat against Duquesne (Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m.), Navy (Saturday beginning at 8:00 a.m.) and MIT (Saturday beginning at 2:10 p.m.) in an attempt to win the Howard W. Wilkens Bowl for the third time in program history. GW previously won the event in 2005 and 2012.

Fifteen points will be awarded to the winner of each Varsity 8 race while 12 points will go to the winner of each JV8 race. The winner of the Varsity 4 races will receive nine points towards the trophy standings. There are no points awarded for second or third place.

This weekend marks the third event of the spring for the Colonials. GW finished in second place in a series of races with Penn and Saint Joseph's on March 22 and advanced three boats to the Grand Final at the Murphy Cup on March 29.
