WASHINGTON - Blaise Stanicic, a two-time All-America selection at Maryland, has joined the George Washington men's and women's water polo programs as an assistant coach. Coach Stanicic played professionally and won a national championship in Croatia following her graduation from Maryland in 2009.
"Coach Stanicic is a wonderful addition to our program," said GW water polo head coach Scott Reed. "Her playing experience on both the collegiate and international levels will be a tremendous asset to all of our student-athletes."
Coach Stanicic became the first Terrapins' water polo player to earn All-America honors with her selection in 2008 and followed as a repeat honoree in 2009. She totaled 139 goals and 116 assists during her four-year career.
She then went on to play for Croatian club Mladost and the Croatian National Team from 2009-10. She helped Mladost win the national championship in May 2010 and competed in the 2010 European Championships as a member of the country's national team.
Coach Stanicic spent six semesters on Maryland's Dean's List and earned a bachelor's degree in English in 2009. She is the daughter of Navy assistant coach Mladen Stanicic and spent the past year as coach of the Naval Academy's club water polo team.
