PENNSAUKEN, NJ- The George Washington women's rowing team won the Varsity 4 and Varsity 8 Petit Finals at the 16th annual Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championships on Saturday morning on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, NJ. GW placed sixth in the nine-team event with 24 points.
Saint Joseph's was declared the winner via tiebreaker after unsafe river conditions cancelled the final three events of the regatta. .
The Colonials did not qualify for any Grand Championships but rebounded with first-place finishes in both the Varsity 4 and Varsity 8 Petit Finals with winning margins of 34 and 23 seconds, respectively.
GW used a second-place finish in the morning heat of the 2nd Varsity 8 to advance to the finals where they finished in fourth place out of six crews, behind past champions Massachusetts and Rhode Island and 2011 champion Saint Joseph's.
Sophomore Anna Kaminski was named to the A-10 All-Championship First Team. The Seattle, WA native rows from the six seat in the Colonials Varsity 8 boat.
Saint Joseph's became the third team to capture a Atlantic 10 women's rowing championship, via tiebreaker, after totaling 45 points along with Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Dayton (41 points) and Fordham (27) followed in fourth and fifth-place, respectively. Temple (23), Duquesne (14) and La Salle (4) rounded out the standings.
The Colonials will return to action on the Potomac River on Friday when they host Indiana and West Virginia at 8:00 am.
