
Four Colonials Take First at Old Dominion Meet

NORFOLK, VA - The George Washington men's and women's swim teams wrapped up the first half of their 2010-11 schedule Saturday when they traveled to take on Old Dominion. The women's squad fell to the Monarchs 139-115, while the GW men's squad fell 142-106.
Freshman Caroline Myers stepped up for the Colonials with three individual victories. Myers won the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.66), 500-yard freestyle (5:04.69) and 200-yard individual Medley (2:10.01).
Sprinter Sydney Saunders netted her first victory in the 50-yard freestyle as a Colonial, posting a time of 25.13. Sydney and Myers teamed up with Lindsay Moore and Sloan Saunders for a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.43).
Freshman distance swimmer Kristina Martin had a solid day, beginning with a second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:37.24). Martin also took third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:23.40).
Sophomore Niklas Glenesk won two events for the men's squad on Saturday. Glenesk won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:50.93 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:48.36. He also finished third in the 100-yard freestyle (48.34) and helped the 200-yard freestyle relay team to a second place finish (1:26.98) with Niccolo Wilson, Alex Etz and Marshall Seedorff.
Phillip Graeter won the 200-yard individual medley (1:57.25) and took second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.79).
The Colonials will be back competing on January 14-15, 2011 at the Rhode Island Invitational, in Kingston, RI. GW's last home meet of the season will be January 30, 2011 against George Mason at 12:00 p.m. at Charles E. Smith Center.
