McCutcheon, Borenstein Lead Colonials At Paul Short Invitational

BETHLEHAM, PA - Sophomore David McCutcheon and senior Zach Borenstein both placed in the top-25 in a massive field to lead the George Washington men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish out of 38 competing schools at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational on Friday afternoon.The men competed in the 8K College Brown Race.
McCutcheon finished in 17th place in the 357-runner field with a time of 25:50 leading the Colonials. Borenstein, who took 21st-place in 25:58, improved on his 2009 course time by just over a minute.
Freshman James Stern finished in 69th place with a time of 26:40 while sophomore Alex Dadds ran the course in 26:47, finishing in 84th place. They were followed by freshmen Daniel Kleine and Rex Sheikh, who finished in 27:14 and 28:03, respectively.
"The course was a little slow; we were the fifth race of the day so by the time we started the course was beat up a good bit" said head coach Brian Beil.
The GW women finished tied for 24th place out of 41 competing schools and were led by senior Jessica Stern. Stern ran the Women's College Brown 6K course in 22:47, finishing in 30th place. Following Stern was sophomore Heather Stevens who finished in 43rd place with a time of 22:58, Stevens improved on her 2009 course time by 18 seconds.
Sophomore Julia Weir completed the course in 23:55, taking 133rd place while junior Emily Foster placed 204th after finishing with a time of 24:35. Freshman Kelly Bartz was right behind, finishing in 208th with a time of 24:36.
"We raced better then we did at Navy on both sides; it is hard to compare times to those in the Gold Race due to the condition of the course" said Beil. "We still have a lot of work to do. We will be a better version of ourselves in four weeks."
The George Washington cross country program returns to action on October 16th at the Penn State National Invitational. This meet will mark the season debut of All-American senior Megan Hogan.
