Men's Soccer Upended by Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC - The George Washington men's soccer team gave up two goals in a span of three minutes in the second half to drop its initial Atlantic 10 meeting against Charlotte, 2-0, at Transamerica Field on Sunday.
GW (4-6-1, 1-2-0 A-10) and the 49ers were playing for just the second time. The Colonials won the only other meeting between the schools, 2-1, in September 1983. Junior goalkeeper Greg Yahr, who was 14th in the nation with a 5.33 saves per game average as of October 1, matched a career-high of seven saves for the second consecutive match.
Charlotte (8-3-2, 4-0-0 A-10) remained undefeated in conference play thanks to a game-winning goal from Chris Arnold in the 66th minute. The 49ers cushioned their lead in the 69th minute when Evan Harding headed in Graham Tetters' corner kick. Charlotte has posted a 6-0-1 record in its last seven matches and is currently ranked eighth in the Mid-Atlantic region.
The Colonials trailed in shots, 16-6, and shots on goal, 9-2. Rookie Erick Perez-Segnini had both of GW's shots on target, while fellow freshman Andrew Stadler fired two shots. Yahr's counterpart, David Martin, stopped both Colonials' attempts to pick up the clean sheet.
GW returns to action on Friday against the nation's 12th-ranked team, Fordham, in Bronx, NY. Kick-off for the A-10 tilt is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
