Men's Soccer Suffers 2OT Defeat at Dayton, 4-3

DAYTON, OH - The George Washington University men's soccer team (3-4-2, 0-1-0 A-10) began its defense of the Atlantic 10 Title Friday night with a 4-3 double overtime loss to conference rival University of Dayton (6-3-1, 1-0-0) at Baujan Field.
The Flyers trailed the Colonials 3-2 with less than 20 minutes to play in regulation and tied the match with a penalty kick and then won it on another penalty kick in double OT. Senior Lubomir Bogdanov converted both PKs for UD.
GW broke a 1-1 tie and took a commanding 3-1 advantage in the second half when senior Andre Chapman (Wilbraham, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon) scored consecutive goals (4,5) in the 46th and 68th minute.
Senior Steve Brown (Stony Point, NY/ North Rockland) set up Chapman's first score just a minute and forty-five seconds into the second half for a 2-1 GW lead.
GW made it 3-1 when senior Ben Mortimer (Leighton Buzzard, England/Cedars Upper) laid it up for a header by Chapman at the 68:42 mark.
Less than two minutes later senior Terry Alvino (3) brought the Flyers to within 3-2 on a header into the right corner from senior Damion Blackburn's corner kick.
The Flyers then scored their second and third unanswered goals on penalty kicks resulting from GW fouls inside UD's box.
The Flyers got on the board first in the match at the 29:20 mark when senior Omar Jarun took a pass from senior Dan Hartwig and drilled into GW's net from 10-yards out.
The Colonials answered right back 58 seconds later when senior Matt Miller (Cincinnati, OH/Cincinnati Country Day) and sophomore Abimbola Pedro (Lagos, Nigeria/King's College Lagos) set up senior Trevor Martin (Chevy Chase, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) for a goal (2) to make it 1-1.
The loss marked the second straight game GW held a 3-1 lead but lost in double overtime.
The Colonials travel to Cincinnati, OH for their next match against Xavier. Game time is 1:00 PM
