WASHINGTON, DC -- WMET Radio (1160 AM) and the George Washington University Department of Athletics have reached a multi-year agreement to broadcast all of GW's men's basketball games this season, GW Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz has announced.
"We are extremely excited about our relationship with WMET," Kvancz said. "This relationship will have a tremendous impact on the listenership of GW men's basketball games. Our fans, alumni and supporters throughout the Washington area will be able to follow the team more easily than they have in many years."
WMET has a 50,000-watt signal that can be heard throughout the metropolitan area. WMET has an illustrious history in the Nation's Capital having broadcasted DC United soccer as well as Potomac Cannons and Frederick Keys baseball in addition to more than 17 years as a Talk/News radio station.
GW's play-by-play announcer, Larry Michael, will continue to call the action on WMET along with Chris Castleberry.
GW games also will continue to be carried by WAGE Radio (1200 AM) of Leesburg, VA, as part of the Colonials Basketball Network.
The Colonials have been ranked No. 37 in the country by ESPN.com's Andy Katz in a preseason Summer Top 50 poll and picked to win the Atlantic 10 Conference's West Division by Street & Smith's College Basketball.
The first game scheduled for broadcast on WMET will be the GW-Wake Forest game on Monday, Nov. 15, at 7:00 pm from the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, NC.
