The Colonials (8-4) contested every match, and played well overall, but were only able to win two of the seven dual match points before losing, 2-5.
"JMU is a nationally strong program," stated GW coach Jeanne Gengler Swiacki, "and this was our best performance against them to date."
Gencsoy won a three-set battle against JMU’s Jauren Dalton at the second singles spot, winning the final two sets, 6-3, 6-2, after losing the first 4-6. Fisher also played well, winning in straight sets over the Dukes’ Christy Michaux, 6-1, 6-4 in the fifth singles match.
"This was a big win for Nazli [Gencsoy]," said Swiacki, "and Sam [Fisher] is hitting her stride."
GW looks to bounce back on Monday, April 16, when they travel cross-town to face local rival American University in their final match before the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
