Lee Rumpf was elevated to Assistant Coach for the 2014-15 season after serving as a volunteer assistant coach for the Colonials in 2013-14.
In his second season as assistant coach, Rumph helped guide the Colonials posted final national rankings of No. 22 for the Varsity 8, No. 15 for the 2nd Varsity 8 and No 16 for the 3rd Varsity 8.
In his first season, he worked primarily with the lower boats and guided the 2nd Freshmen 8 boat to a 3-1 record. He also assisted in the coaching of the 2nd Varsity 8 during the season.
Prior to GW, Rumpf coached a number of Washington, DC, teams. With Thompson Boat Center, Rumpf guided crews to national championships and podium finishes at Royal Canadian Henley. He also served as the freshmen coach at St. Alban's School in spring of 2012 and has assisted with the Walt Whitman High School crew teams.
His seven seasons spent working with local DC teams has exposed him to some of the best coaches and rowers in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, rowing communities.
Rumpf rowed for and completed his undergraduate degree in political science from the University of California at Berkeley.
A native of Arlington, VA, Rumpf graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science in Technology in 2007. While rowing for The Colonials he won the Stotesbury Cup twice, earned a Scholastic National Championship, and competed at Henley Royal Regatta.
