Matt Lange is in his second season as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator of George Washington’s men’s and women’s cross country and track programs.
Lange competed for GW throughout the 2017-18 season as a fifth-year graduate student. He received first team All-Conference honors in the fall with a sixth place finish at the conference meet, helping the Colonials earn their highest finish ever at the meet (3rd), Lange would later set the program's 10,000-meter record with a 31:13 at the regional meet.
On the track, Lange helped set the school record in the 4xMile alongside Chris Shaffer, Colin Wills, and Carter Day at Penn Relays (16:34). He also scored valuable points at the conference meet in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 1,500-meters. Lange finished his outdoor campaign as one of the first two athletes in George Washington history to qualify for the NCAA meet alongside teammate Carter Day in the 3,000-meter steeplechase where he would finish 27th.
Prior to his time at George Washington, Lange competed for four years at Furman University in Greenville, S.C. He helped the Paladins finish 13th in the NCAA in cross country his junior year (2015). Lange also scored conference points in the 1,500-meter, 3,000-meter, 5,000-meter, and the 4x400 while at Furman. He also was a member of the All-Southern Conference team for cross country in 2016.
Lange is earning his masters from George Washington in Tourism Administration with a concentration in Sport Management. He earned his bachelor's degree in Communication Studies from Furman University in 2017.
Coach Lange continues to train post-collegiately under Coach Weir.
