Women’s Soccer Opens 2026 Season with Temple, at Delaware

Under the guidance of third-year head coach Jeremy Williams, the George Washington women's soccer team gets its 2026 slate underway on Wednesday, hosting Temple at 3:00 p.m. The Revolutionaries follow it up with a road match on Saturday, traveling to Delaware to face the Blue Hens at 7:00 p.m. Both contests will be carried live on ESPN+.

The Buff & Blue welcomed back 16 student-athletes from last year's squad, including Kalia Kau, who led all returners with eight points a year ago. Jasmine Black also returns for her sophomore season in goal after making 28 saves as a rookie, finishing the year with a .667 save percentage on 97 shots faced. GW welcomed nine newcomers to the fold this year, including three transfers and six first-years. Transfers include Marley Gerber (USC Upstate), Lenea Guerrero (Youngstown State) and Ariana Gronauer (Temple), while first-year players include Mckenna Wickman, Kolby Moss, Halle Ostboe, Sophia Michel, Madison Dockery and Ella Provost-Heron.

Temple enters Wednesday's season opener coming off a 4-15 year in 2025, tallying wins over Iona, LeMoyne, Lincoln (Pa.) and UAB. The Owls' offense was led by first-year Valentina Bitterwolf as she recorded four goals and six assists for 14 points. Gronauer, who joined GW in the transfer portal, was second on the team with nine points, while Shari Atkins was just behind with eight and returns to Temple for her senior year in 2026. The Owls were a goalkeeper-by-committee group a year ago, with three keepers seeing action. Only one returns, Claudia Viau, who appeared in seven matches and tallied 16 saves.

GW at Delaware – Saturday, August 15

Coming off a solid 10-2-6 season a year ago, Delaware was ousted in the opening round of the Conference USA Tournament on penalty kicks at the hands of Sam Houston. Saturday's primetime matchup will be the Blue Hens' season opener, after facing Rider and Marshall in preseason exhibitions last week.

Maggie Groh returns for her senior season after leading the club in points a year ago. She notched five goals and five assists in 18 matches as a junior, tallying 40 shots in the process. Adiat Olaogun-Dickson finished with five goals and two assists as a first-year last season, while Gabby Riley also returns for her junior season having tallied 12 points last year as well. Defensively, Delaware relied on first-year keeper Sophia Hall in all 18 matches in 2025. Hall finished with 71 saves, a .826 save percentage and a 0.83 goals-allowed average.
