WASHINGTON - GW redshirt senior Rafael Castro was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team and All-Defensive Team, the league announced on Wednesday morning.
The accolades mirror Castro's achievements from last season as he becomes the first Revolutionary with multiple All-Defensive honors since Yuta Watanabe (2017 and 2018) and first multi-time first- or second-teamer since Tyler Cavanaugh (2nd team in 2016 and 2017).
Castro averaged 15.7 ppg and 8.8 rpg while shooting 62.7% in 25 games this season for George Washington, also adding 1.8 spg, 1.7 apg and 1.6 bpg, the first player to post those averages across an entire season since Duke's Zion Williamson in 2018-19.
He ranked among A-10 leaders in defensive rebounding (1st), field goal percentage (1st), double-doubles (3rd), offensive rebounding (3rd), total rebounding (3rd), steals per game (3rd), blocks per game (5th) and points per game (7th).
The pair of accolades add to his recognition as a finalist for the Lefty Driesell National Defensive Player of the Year Award, which was unveiled on Tuesday.
Castro and the Revolutionaries open the A-10 Tournament on Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m. vs. Fordham on USA Network.
