WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's basketball team returns to action on Sunday, hosting DMV foe George Mason for the team's first nationally televised game of the 2025-26 season. Tip-off is set for 12:00 p.m. in Foggy Bottom, live on CBS Sports Network.
COMING TO A TV NEAR YOU
Sunday's matchup marks the first nationally televised game GW will play in nearly three calendar years, the last coming on CBSSN against George Mason on January 16, 2023. GW has historically handled business against the Patriots, holding a 30-17 edge in the all-time series dating back to the first matchup in 1976. Despite recent success for George Mason, GW has dominated the series since 2010, winning 20 of the 30 meetings, including 13 straight from 2012-18.
THEODORSSON CELEBRATES 1,000
After reaching 1,000 career points on December 31st at St. Bonaventure, Emma Theodorsson will be honored for the milestone pregame on Sunday. Theodorsson becomes the first member of the Buff & Blue to hit the mark since Nya Lok in January of 2023, though neither player recorded all of their career points with GW. Theodorsson spent the first two years of her career at Bucknell, totaling 592 points. Her junior season was played in the Windy City at Loyola Chicago, recording 283 points, equating to a 9.4 ppg average for the fellow A-10 program.
Since joining GW, Theodorsson has averaged 8.6 ppg, appearing in 16 games and making two starts. Her season-high came against Northwestern on Dec. 21, pouring in 16 points. She's scored in double figures eight times, including a double-double on Nov. 17 at Longwood.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
With a deceiving 9-6 record due to a strong non-conference calendar, George Mason enters Sunday's matchup with a 4-0 mark in Atlantic 10 play. The Patriots, led by fifth-year Head Coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis, are fresh off their program's first Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament berth a year ago, finishing 26-7 overall. A week ago, against VCU, Blair-Lewis joined the 400 wins club, currently holding a 401-356 overall record in 26 seasons as a head coach.
On the court, George Mason is led by standout juniors Zahirah Walton and Kennedy Harris, who account for over 47% of the team's total points this season. Walton leads the way at 19.6 ppg, second-best in the conference, while Harris puts in 13.9 ppg and leads the team with 2.4 assists per game. Walton complements her scoring on the glass, grabbing 6.0 rebounds a night, second only to Hawa Komara's 6.3 rpg on the Patriot stat sheet. George Mason's full 2025-26 season stats can be found here.
