Women’s Basketball Succumbs to A-10 Champions, 59-46
1/11/2026 2:41:00 PM | Women's Basketball
For a George Washington team looking to get back in the win column under Head Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan, Sunday's visit from defending league champion George Mason provided a tough task. The Patriots brought a deceptive 9-6 record to DC, a mark that belied the team's dominance in conference play after a challenging non-conference schedule. For GW's part, despite picking itself admirably off the mat after a 16-6 first quarter deficit, the Revolutionaries became the fifth-straight A-10 foe to fall to George Mason by double digits, 59-46.
The national television audience tuning in on CBS Sports saw GW close to within four at 36-32 with just a tick more than three minutes to play in the third quarter, but Mason's offensive rebounding (19) and points off turnover edge (21-2) proved to be too much for Coach G's unit to overcome.
Sara Lewis double-doubled with 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead GW.
Record-wise the sledding gets easier now for GW in the next four games, as starting Wednesday on the road at Duquesne, GW plays four teams who entered play today equal to or below the Revolutionaries in the standings. The Dukes hold an 0-4 mark, then a home game against Loyola Chicago (1-3) shows next for George Washington on Jan. 17th at 2 p.m. Contests at VCU (1-3) on 1/21 and against Fordham (0-4) at home on 1/25 at 2 p.m. are forthcoming.
