Bilal’s Goal Lifts Women’s Soccer to Season-Opening Win

WASHINGTON – Sophomore Julia Bilal's goal in the 39th minute was all the offense the George Washington women's soccer team needed as it secured a 1-0 victory over American in the 2025 season-opener. The Revolutionaries start the year 1-0 for just the second time since 2018.

- 39th Minute: After first-year Anna Cornejo's first collegiate shot was deflected out of play, GW was awarded its first corner kick of the match. The GW Revs capitalized on the chance as Alex Caldwell delivered a perfect ball into the box that Bilal headed past the diving Eagle keeper for the match's lone score.
NOTEWORTHY
- The goal is Bilal's second of her career, while Caldwell registers her second collegiate assist.
- GW was outshot by American, 10-4, in the match. The Revolutionaries finished with a 3-2 edge in shots on target.
- Kate Silverstein played all 90 minutes in net for GW, notching two saves for her first clean sheet of the year.
- The Eagles finished with a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
