WASHINGTON - Celebrating in style in front of Lynda Carter, the actress who played Wonder Woman, the George Washington women's basketball team snapped a losing skid and claimed a league win against Fordham, 69-59, on the team's Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration.
First-year Gabby Reynolds was sensational in her starting role, efficiently netting her team-high 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-4 from long range. The 5'9" point guard also paced the team with eight much-needed rebounds on a night that Fordham had a decisive rebounding edge (51-41), including 28-9 on the offensive glass. Another first-year, Miriam Diala, had a team-high five assists from her position in the frontcourt.
The GW Revs went back to the basics and won with stifling defense, holding the Rams to just .243 from the floor. George Washington was in control for the majority of the night, holding the lead for more than 37 minutes of the 40-minute contest. The lead was as big as 20 early in the fourth quarter before Fordham went on a mini-run to make the final few minutes a bit more interesting, closing to within five with 3:00 remaining.
George Washington's most dominant quarter came out of the halftime locker room, as the Buff & Blue turned a 27-24 edge at intermission into a 49-36 edge going into the final 10 minutes.
GW will look to keep the good times rolling when it visits St. Bonaventure on Saturday. Tip time against the Bonnies in Olean is 1 p.m. St. Bonaventure currently occupies the last spot in the A-10 standings, entering tomorrow's game at UMass with a 1-10 record in league play.
GW fans can get in the game by directly supporting student-athletes through donations to the Buff & Blue Fund. For more information on GW Athletics, fans are encouraged to visit GWsports.com, or follow the Revolutionaries on social media through X (@GWsports) and Instagram (@gwsports).
