Women’s Basketball Celebrates NGWSD Tuesday vs. Fordham

WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's basketball team hosts Fordham on Tuesday afternoon for the team's annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. inside the Charles E. Smith Center with Byron Kerr and Cami Tapias live on the call via ESPN+.
NGWSD CELEBRATION
Tuesday's contest will serve as the program's annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration. Joining the team as a special guest coach will be Lynda Carter, the American actress and singer best known for playing Wonder Woman in the 1970s. Children in attendance are encouraged to dress as the iconic superhero and will receive a free t-shirt upon entry. A-10 CHAMPIONSHIP TICKETS NOW ON SALE
All-session tickets for the 2024 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship are now on sale. Returning to the Henrico Sports & Events Center in Henrico, Va., the tournament will span from March 5-12 with the semi-final and championship rounds carried on national television. Both semi-final contests on March 8 will be aired on the CBS Sports Network, while the championship game on March 9 will be featured on ESPN 2.
GW has a long history of success at the A-10 Championship with tournament seven tournament titles and three over the past 10 seasons. The Revolutionaries' most recent championship came in 2018, capturing the crown as the tournament's five-seed. In total, the program boasts 23 A-10 championships, including 16 regular-season crowns. Losers of two straight, Fordham enters the Smith Center on Tuesday with a 12-9 overall record and a 6-4 mark in conference action. Head coach Bridgette Mitchell is in her second year with the program, holding a 24-26 record since taking over the program prior to the 2023-24 season. The Duke grad previously spent two seasons at Northeastern, leading the team to a 19-12 season in her final year. Previously this season, Mitchell and the Rams got the best of GW in the Bronx, tallying a 61-53 come-from-behind win inside Rose Hill Gymnasium. The Rams are jockeying for position in the A-10 standings with four weeks left in the regular season. They currently sit in a tie for sixth but are just half a game out of fourth.
Fordham's led by Taylor Donaldson, who averages 17.0 points a night on 38.4% shooting from the floor. She grabs 4.2 boards a game and is also second on the team in assists at 1.6 a night. Irene Murua is second on the squad in scoring at 11.7 ppg while also leading the team in rebounding with 130 on the season for a 6.2 average. Murua also leads Fordham in shooting percentage this season, connecting on 55.4% of her shots from the floor.
